Schutzumschlagzeichnung von Hans Meid. S. Fischer-Bücherei. First published by S. Fischer in 1935. Hans Meid dust-jacket drawing shows nineteenth-century fountain in a town square with a well-dressed couple promenading. Story: the young wife of a Prussian embassy official around 1801 travels to Rome. Gravenhorst was born in Breslau, moved with her husband to Berlin in 1921. Published several novels linking Schlesien to the rest of the world: "a bridge" between Silesia and Italy in this novel, according to a biographer. Of perhaps greater historical interest could be her novella of York between Russia and Napoleon in Reise nach Sagan (1932).
