Humorous, tongue in cheek guide to mountaineering, in verse by the author with his own childlike colored illustrations on every page. The mountaineering guide is, as he notes in the ironic foreword, a good way to make money. Whether there is anything else happening in this book is unclear. Plainly culture-criticism (against intellectuals and the big city, in favor of nature and strong challenges), but unclear how regional the politics are: Alpinismus as just another "ism"; mountain tourism as a source of easy income; the silliness of Trenker/Riefenstahl films. Quite critical of the big-city, whose inhabitants come out and ruin the landscape, both land and mountain. The mountain guides - Führer - play a strange role: they are "bieder und geschaeftetüchtig" and happy when they have caught another tourist: "Auch Führer stehen abends lang / Heraussen zwecks Touristenfang, / Und ist geködert die 'Partie' / Dann grinsen sie voll Ironie" (63). When naïve climbers finally reach the mountain they have become completely dependent on their guide: "Und gibt sich dann dem Seile hin, / wodurch man enbryonenhaft / Abhängig von des Führers Kraft." But then the best part of climbing is that one does it oneself, is not hoisted up by the guide. Merits further study.
