In the draft of The Waste Land Eliot had summer coming over the Königssee. Did Eliot actually visit this area when a student at the Sorbonne? If so did he forget the name of the lake he visited, correcting it later? Or was Eliot more interested in getting a good sounding word for the poem? Perhaps he was putting in an allusion to a notable event that occurred at the lake.
