The Marie (of Eliot's line 15) was the second cousin of King Ludwig II of Bavaria, a most devoted patron of Richard Wagner. The young Marie once met Wagner when he came to call on her father. Marie, who was home alone, did not recognize him and thinking him a tailor dispatched him to wait. It was a very long wait and the family was very embarrassed on their return.
